Lincoln Park woman dies in Dearborn traffic crash

Dearborn police were called to the scene of a fatal traffic collision at about 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 26.

The crash happened at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Gulley.

“This is a terrible tragedy, and we offer our condolences to the victim’s family and friends,” police Cmdr. Timothy McHale said. “I ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision please contact the Dearborn Police Department.”

A preliminary investigation shows that a Wayne County Sheriff’s Department deputy had tried to initiate a traffic stop on a white Ford Econoline van.

The van, which refused to stop, continued driving at high speed and proceeded through a red light at Gulley, striking a Chevrolet Trax traveling northbound on Gulley, police said.

The driver of the Trax, a 61-year-old woman from Lincoln Park, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van's driver fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away by police officers.

The suspect's identity is being withheld pending formal charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
